Volunteer Placement
Our focus on volunteer placement is an innovative concept that combines volunteer work with an experience of stepping into the past medieval period and back. The objective is to encourage people from all over the world with different culture and life style to know Nepal and the Nepalese people and their culture and life style by doing volunteer job in various local organizations serving children and old people.
We have currently available following volunteer programmes:
- Volunteering in an orphanage.
- Working in a rehabilitation centre for Children with Neurological Disorder.
- Volunteering in an old people’s home.
- Working in School.
Working in an Orphanage
Volunteers will be placed in an orphanage where they will assist the children in their day to day routine. The children are mostly between the ages of four and fifteen, and have a basic understanding of English. The general role of the volunteer will be to act as an older sibling: to care for, look after and encourage the children. Volunteers will teach the children general life skills, including health and sanitation, as well as arts, crafts and music.
Working in rehabilitation centre for Children with Neurological Disorder
Volunteers will be placed in a rehabilitation centre for Children with Neurological Disorder where they will assist the children to perform multi-disciplinary services (Various therapies, vocational training and counseling) provided by the centre. The main objective of the centre is to make a child with neurological disorders, less dependant (at least in his activities of daily living), lead a more varied and stimulating life and to provide skill development opportunities as per their capacity and potential, leading them towards self-independence.
Volunteering in an old people’s home
Volunteers will be placed in an old people’s home, where they will assist old people in their day to day routine. The old people, mostly the ages of over 65 are homeless and without their families. Volunteers can assist a cook to prepare meals for old people, wash their clothes, help them got neat and clean and give training for income generating activities.
Working in School
Volunteers will teach Health Education Sanitation to school children in a school for about 2 hours each day for six days (Saturday is the day off). They will also be involved in showing and teaching their skill to students. During this period volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in local festivals and get the opportunity to exchange their culture.
Where can you stay:
The volunteer will be placed in local host family in the urban/rural areas surrounding Kathmandu.
The Basic daily programme is as follows:
6-7 A.M. Wake up
7-8 A.M. Light Breakfast
10A.M.-3 P.M. Volunteer Job in an organization.
4-5 P.M. Nepali/English/Newari Language class.
5-7 P.M. Free for personal activities.
8-9 P.M. Dinner with host family
Program Schedule
The volunteer program can be started in any date or time of Year. You can volunteer anywhere from 1 week to 3 months. The school and the rehabilitation centre are closed during winter (at least 1 month) and summer (maximum 15 days) so the volunteering in school and rehabilitation centre is limited during this period.
